World Naked Bike Ride 2018
The World Naked Bike Ride is held in various cities all over the world, and comes to Manchester each year in early June. This is the 2018 ride around Manchester's city centre for the 12th time. After several peaceful years of protest by the cyclists, the police are happy to let the riders be guided by their own marshalls around an agreed route. Getting naked, or 'as bare as they dare', the riders are deliberately commanding attention to protest about the depletion of fossil fuels, and the vulnerability of cyclists, while at the same time celebrating the human body in the open air. As ever, the people of Manchester greeted the 300 plus peloton with cheers of support as they rode slowly by.
A special personal story this year was the participation of newlyweds who were married earlier that day.
